If you are involved with the electronic music scene and don't know DJ Richie Hawtin is you are straight up wrong! Born in England and growing up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, across the river from Detroit, he was perfectly placed in the late 1980’s to help the North America Rave movement come into being + more input
We thought it would be fitting to transmit all the upcoming shows (that we like) so you have a better idea of where the party will be, besides in my pants. Most of the events we're mentioning are thrown in the Mid-Atlantic region and host EDM music of some type. If you know about a dope event on the horizon send me the link at transmit@darkmattersquad.com and we will check it out. Doesn't matter if its her... + more input

So sue me, it's technically not a mixtape, but this mix from 2001 is so dope I have to share it! The first time I heard Z-Trip’s “Uneasy Listening, Volume 1” mix I thought I was tripping. As a child born in the 70’s and raised in the 80’s I witnessed first-hand the explosion of so much good music. + more input

We have all seen the likes of Rahzel and Dougy Fresh. Recently we even posted some crazy highlights of the World Beatbox Championship from 2012. But what do you get when you drop extreme beatbox talent into the world of EDM. You get this freaking guy: Dave Crowe. Actually, it would be unfair to say he is an EDM beatbox artist. Dave Crowe covers it all working as a duo Beatbox/Blues group called Heymoonshake... + more input

When you hear people say "Amen Brother!" what comes to mind? When I hear those words I recall the 6 second drum break that single handedly gave rise to a whole new style of music. The break is from a 1969 song performed by the Winstons called “Amen Brother”. This break ( Amen Break) would go on to engrain its way into all forms of music and most notably it is the genesis sound for Drum and Bass, also kn... + more input

On February 25, 2012, Dark Matter Squad attended Manifest's Archaic Revival at Sonar in Baltimore, MD. We had such an amazing time, met so many awesome and very talented people, and even broke out our retro, Disco Bot suits. Below is a video recently released by Manifest highlighting the event. The video is produced by William Blucher with music provided by SugarPill, who might I add, killed it at Archaic... + more input
If you were a party kid in Philly the numbers 611 were synonymous with rave culture. 611 was a record store located off of south street and was, for a time, the undisputed epicenter for all things rave in Philly. My first trip to 611 was in 1995 to pick up tickets for a party being held outside of Baltimore called Bassrush. For years, it became a place that I frequented to see friends who worked there, pic... + more input
I am very pleased to share a documentary that goes all the way back to "year zero" in the evolution of dance music. This documentary is one of the few definitive guides to the history of electronic music . It's called Pump up the Volume " The History of House Music' and was made in the early 2000's by the BBC. + more input

Ahhhh...the mix tape how I loved thee? You were the pre party, the after party, for so many years, the soundtrack for so many lives. Nothing says classic club/rave culture quite like the mix tape. I often let my wife know how I feel about my personal development in dance after each practice. He’s discussing writing and st... + more input
